Menopause at Work: Small Changes That Make a Difference
Many women reach perimenopause at a busy point in their working lives. Hot flushes in meetings, broken sleep before an early start and brain fog on a deadline can all make work harder. Small, practical changes often make a real difference.
Changes worth asking for
- A desk fan, or a seat near a window and away from heaters
- Cold drinking water and easy access to toilets
- Lighter or layered uniform options
- A quiet space for a few minutes when a hot flush hits
- Flexible hours, or a later start after a bad night
Talking to your manager
You don't have to share more than you want to. Focus on what would help you do your job well. If you'd rather not talk to your line manager, HR, another manager you trust or occupational health (if your workplace has it) can help.
Day to day
Use reminders and notes for busy days, plan demanding work for your clearest hours, and go easy on hot drinks before a presentation.
