Talking to Your Partner About Perimenopause
Perimenopause doesn't only change how you feel. It can change home life too: broken nights, a shorter fuse, less interest in sex, or wanting the window open in November. Partners often notice the changes before they understand them, and silence on both sides can turn into distance.
Pick your moment
A calm time, not in the middle of a disagreement or at midnight after a hot flush.
Explain what's happening
Share what you've noticed in yourself and that it's linked to changing hormones. You could show them your symptom notes in Mina, or send them an article like this one.
Ask for something specific
"Can you take the early school run after a bad night?" is easier to say yes to than "I need more support."
Talk about intimacy, honestly
Lower sex drive, dryness and discomfort are common. Saying so plainly, and without blame, takes the guesswork out for both of you. These are also things your GP can help with.
Keep checking in
It isn't one conversation. A quick "how are we doing?" every few weeks keeps things open.
Look after yourself too
Talking to friends going through the same thing can help. You're not the only one.
